Instructions for Life

Someone just sent me nice forward with Instructions for Life
A lot of these things have been said before, but being the beginning of the year, it's nice to hear them again. These are my faves:

1.Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risks.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
4. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
5. Don't let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
6. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
7. Open arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
8. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
9. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
10. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
11. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
12. Be gentle with the earth.
13. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
14. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
15. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
16. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

i truly believe that we should apply most of these, if not all of them. haha.. maybe the reckless abandon in cooking will not be too good for my apartment-to-be, but it's true, if you never try, you never know! Apparently the Dalai Lama said these for the year, and they're very simple, but beautiful.

And to round it off, a quote from another very philosophical mind, Edward Bear, better known to us as Winnie the Pooh:
'Sometimes it's a Boat, and sometimes it's more of an Accident. It all depends'
'Depends on what?'
'On whether I'm on the top of it or underneath it.'

May 2006 be more of a Boat than an Accident, although mostly, it's how you go about it that makes the difference. :o)
