When You Are Owned By Someone Else

Aiya. Lousy Kee Win.
I am addicted to Human Pets. Obsession about whether anyone has bought my precious pet 'Risque formerly known as Da Bian'.

~Oooo.. pleasantly interrupted from my blogging by Patty Boo calling from Hong Kong!
Today's my lucky Klang day. Eddie called. Then Patty called.
=) So loved. But yeah, good catching up with them... i miss you guys!!! ~

Okay, detour over. The point of today's blogging, I'm owned by some random dude!
Scariness. He has his crotch in tightey whiteys as his display pic and, according to Kee, an obsession with buying girls. (didn't want to check his profile in case he gets excited)
Even though Izy and Kee gallantly tried to save me (or so that's what I like to think their intentions were. Maybe they just have this sadistic desire to own me too), this fella still outbought me. Wah.
Maybe he's just loyal?
I don't dare to run away. Haha.. No reason to, really. Only find it a bit creepy that strangers are so adamant to own me. Especially strangers who are supposedly in the US army. (scary char siew-like connotations!)
Maybe I should make more obvious my hints that I want to be owned by someone else. Stop buying me, dude... your persistence is getting annoying!
Must be gutsy like this comic:

So simple, but speaks volumes....

P.S: one essay down = 2400 words down = 8000 due on Monday

P.P.S: I'm going to attend a Diversity Conference and am sponsored by the Fire Brigade! (whee... cocktails, dinners, dinner cruises. i like)

P.P.P.S: I'm going to the Melbourne Cup next week!

Ggggrrr......

I am an angry person today.
I don't like my essay. It's too philosophical.
When there is so much to do, I am not in the mood to contemplate and reflect, no matter how important the questions are.
I hate the phone reception in IH. It's screwed up and causes me emotional trauma. Noone can call me. My abandoned mother leaves 6 voicemail messages on my phone because she is waiting for me in the city. But i don't know.
The pizza delivery dude calls twice to tell that he's coming. But i don't know.
The result:
Angry because i'm guilty that I left her alone in the city.
Angry because I made the delivery guy come to IH 3 times and had to pay extra too.

Why is everything making me angry? Well, the good thing to come out of it is that I found a new comic blog I like. Although it isn't quite as angry as I am, I can see many situations that it spells out perfectly. Angrylittlegirls.com

I suppose you have to balance out the highs with the lows.
Gggrrr anyway.

Update: I love Adrian for his shoulder rubs. Mmm.. A bit pacified at least. And the block of dark chocolate doesn't hurt either. Well, except the waistline. (wasteland? hhhmm...)

The Last time I'll Write About Last Times...

Yes yes, i know.
Last week of uni.
Last tute ever.
Last AIESEC meeting.
Last take home test.
Last time I'll have SWOT Vac.

Everything is the Last. I've gotten over it, okay? So it's the rest of my life already?
Not quite.
1000 words down, only 10, 400 to go by the 5th of November.
2400 of which are due on Monday.

You're really here to procrastinate, right? Alright. I live to please.
For great music while you're studying, go to Last.fm. Plug in the name of an artist you like and they'll stream music that's similar for your listening pleasure. Absolutely free! I'm hooked. Have found lots of great new artists already.

And if you're more into visual delights, more Flight of the Conchords!

Now stop procrastinating and get down to business... (studying, that is)

Gourmet throwing-ingredients-together

What happens when you mix four extremely amateur chefs, hungry tummies at 2am, and enough ingredients to try something new?
Something that involves discovering a month-old lump of garlic and lamb in my grill, *eeewwwww.. in my defence, they were meant to clean it 'cos i was in Malaysia!* a lot of flying egg white (blenders are not quite egg beaters), and stirring, whisking, folding, flipping, grilling. Meh. everything!
End product: Chocolate and Mixed Berry Souffle Omelette! (that's the recipe name, seriously)
The top part has grated chocolate on it - it's not burnt!

Verdict: i thought it was quite yummy.
See... looks somewhat the same wat!

When the hardest person to convince is yourself

In a time when I question my adamance in many decisions, i find this quote most appropriate:
Most men, including those at ease with the problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues and which they have woven into the fabric of their lives.

~Tolstoy~
Does it take a truly great person to realise that egos should not impede our good judgement?
Still I doubt it would make any difference at all.

You know when you need an excuse for being late?

Kee Hong's 21st!

Seeing as an unfortunate accident has rendered me one of the few important people with pictures from last night's festivities, i must fulfil my honourable duty and post them up.
So, what happened at Kee's 21st?
Cooking,

Eating,
Cooking, eating and Posing,

Staring,

More staring (at the pool) under the guise of scratching lotto ticket. (seriously!)
Eating of the most awfully shaped sausage ever.

Dropping (it) while it's hot. (???) Kenny supposedly looking upset he lost his sausage.
Praying for many many good times and better grades?

And passing out after 1 tequila/beer! Wahsai... look like feverish.

And just for evidence, this one was yours, gung gung!

The night in brief. Happy Birthday Kee Hong! Old already - we can miss these big crowds together at home. *sigh*

Songs to make you Smile

Today's such a glorious spring day.
It makes me happy.
So it's time to share happy music. =)
If you have time to smile, smile with a soundtrack.

Catherine Feeny - Mr. Blue. Balloons are balls of happiness!

Feist - 1234 (live on Letterman) Sounds better live and with a big chorus of clapping people!

Field Music - You're Not Supposed To. Caught this on Rage some strange hour of the night. For a British sound and more happy clappy people.

Ingrid Michaelson - The Way I Am. Her voice is so clear it's beautiful. Nerdy glasses are cool after all! (the first vid i put up got taken down. Boo. But this is happy unclear version. Click here for a more minimalistic rendition)

I sound like i'm in love. But having lunch at a cafe in DeGraves street on a beautiful sunny day makes me realise that i AM living in the greatest city in the world.

I love Melbourne. =)

*Thanks for reminding me, Kee Win*

The Phaaaaaaantom of the Opera..... is a Freaky Stalker Dude

The good news is that it's Thursday.
The bad news is that Thursday is barely halfway through the week. Or so it feels like it.
I'm exhausted. And it's more from thinking about how much work I have than actually being stuck in the middle of all of it.
And maybe a touch of sleeplessness.
Did i mention mum's in town?

Anyhoos, watched Phantom of the Opera tonight. It was awesome awesome awesome. The songs are better when you know them, the stage was so elaborate (kudos to the guy who made the lake scene), costumes were so rich an gorgeous, and the cast was brilliant. Especially the Phantom - his voice was so commanding, i was mesmerised. Furthermore, the guy who plays the leng chai was actually tall and leng chai. So there you go. Eye candy to boot.
This is the first musical i've been to where the ENTIRE theatre stood to applaud at the end. Now that's a great musical.

However, my mind has to wander, no? (for i would not be me otherwise)
The Phantom is creepy. He's like the ultimate stalker.
Not that they didn't already hate him in the show, but seriously. Snooping on the girl and whispering things and killing people?
The Phantom in present day would be charged with:
1) Invasion of privacy
2) Sexual harrassment
3) Invasion of property
4) Physical and Psychological Coercion
5) Blackmail
6) Use of threats
7) Murder
8) Kidnapping
9) Squatting
10) Stalking
11) Sabotage
12) Damage to property

Haha.. the arts student trying to do law. Any law students want to add to my list?
But seriously, no matter how great his voice is, i don't think it justifies being that freaky stalker dude.

Right, enough procrastination. Watch Phantom of the Opera if you can and if you haven't. I think it's awesome. I wanna rewatch the movie now too. Cos the hot King Leonidas from 300 is the Phantom. *drool*

wonder if i'd object to him stalking me....

Conchordial Delight

When you have quota to burn,
When in the past week people have shown you random videos while you try to think up O week audition ideas for them.
(O week auditions went awesome by the way! GM's so much more relaxing when you're not involved in running it)
This is just a really good funny time-wasting video.

Best line in the song - I'm making a lasagne ...... for one.

Genius.

Pixar Exhibition = So Niiiiiice..... =)

Last day of the Pixar exhibition so I finally made my way there with Aaron in tow.
It was one of those things where you keep thinking Yes yes, I'll go to it one day and then the next thing you know it's the last day and you HAVE to go or you'll never get to see it.
I have to say I'm left very impressed.
Anyway, there are a few photos of the exhibition in this article but i thought this charcoal drawing of the shark from Finding Nemo is too too great. Seriously, i've worked with charcoal before - this is so detailed, it's madness!

One of the coolest things there was the Toy Story Zoetrope. What's a zoetrope? The idea is that you take lots of plastic castings of figures in slightly different poses that depict a motion. (sort of like a flip-book). Put them in sequence on a big wheel and spin! The effect isn't there though. You then need a strobe light which basically flashes on and off really quickly. It's kind of like a photo flash. So your eyes will string them together and form one smooth motion. It was awesome cool. As though a 3d cartoon was playing right in front of me.
WAAAAAAH. impressed. Was very tempted to film it but not worth getting thrown out of the place i think. BUT, there's a plagiarised version off youtube.... even if I'm pretty sure he filmed it illegally. It seemed a lot cooler when you were there though. You can still get a pretty good idea.

Another thing they did was take the conceptual art and make it into a 3d cinematic experience type thing. Imagine travelling into a painting (with a soundtrack!) It's crazy the amount of effort that goes into making 1 cartoon. They do studies on every single thing - the colours of the leaves, the design of the stem, the thickness of each hair! Madness! But brilliance too.

It's a real Porsche!

It looks like Sulley's gonna swipe Aaron and Mike is groping my ass. Family fun all around!
My, what a big.... Ball?
Hhhhmm.... why yes indeedy do.
They were also showing Ratatouille for only 5 bucks so we went to watch that. I like! Especially when there are many little children around - so cute lah! I had a better appreciation of it because of all the drawings and sketchings and models we just saw. I kowtow to you, Mr. Pixar man. =) Would encourage people to go but today's the last day - so at least think of all the work that goes into the cartoon next time you watch one. I want to rewatch Monsters Inc now!

Valedicts 2007 : the Goblet of Fraternitas

Valedicts is over and without much drama. (that's a good thing!)
I had a good night, even if it was extremely long for everyone else. (haha, but we only get to leave once right?)
Anyway, it's supposedly the last formal dinner ever. No more gowns? Well, maybe at graduation. We had an awesome awesome walk in song, and everything just seemed pretty good. Our guest speaker was extremely entertaining (although a bit cheonghei - which is why i understood!) and the musical acts were good too. Steph Seah excellent song choice - Save Tonight and the acapella group! (which is great because I was in it) All the awards were pretty funny - Best Login Name to Dildo, The DuU Award to Sheanee Poh, The Hhhmmm... Award to Andrew Oppenheim.. Well done Alternitas guys!
Just a few photos cos it's such a pain uploading. they're all on facebook tho!
The members of GP showing some skin (and hair)
Group picture!
Come on, do it with me now. DuUuUu
Dottie! She feels like she shrunk
Hello guests!
Bec and Nicki = loves
Maybe not so sober dancing group
Outside Intersection!

The exciting news? I got Fraternitas! All that slaving for IH finally paid off! And it feels good - not just getting the award, but the fact that people did cheer for me, and i felt that i was acknowledged. It's just special when people come up to you and say you deserved that.
Yay.. contented.

Puggs was good fun too. Although didn't drink as much as I thought i would, i did dance a lot! (and lose my camera case - booo). A lot of funny boozy conversations (or more like ramblings) i.e.: Sheanee Poh and the guest speaker (who went to Puggs with us and Peter Cole!) I shall reenact.
(On the way to Puggs)
Sheanee: Aiya.. didn't get to talk to the lawyer guy.
(Upon arrival at Puggs)
Jeannie: Oh, Hi Steve! (the lawyer guy) I have someone who wants to meet you.
(drag Sheanee)
Sheanee: What am i supposed to say (to me) Oh Hello!
Steve: Hello!
Sheanee: I'm a law student
Steve: Good for you.
Sheanee: So, will you give me a job?

At this point, me feeling "WAHLAU.. Sheanee!" decide to sneak off and leave them and grab my drink. But apparently Joe and her spoke to him the whole night so there! Never doubt the pub for networking opps.

At the end of the night, there was the customary waiting in front of Intersection for people and their pizzas. Coming back in the foyer, we had the sight of Pete Nevett with torn pants and a strip of it tied on his head. Haha. Don't ask me - he didn't know either.

Grace was tipsy and funny, she wanted to stay up to watch the sunrise. In the end all us oldies trooped off home though. (too much excitement for 1 day)

Special Kudos to Rajinda who was the first to fulfil his aspiration! [to make it up the stage and collect the goblet without falling]
Even bigger Kudos to Randy for FAILING his aspiration first! [to make it to Puggs that night] Hahaha.. he fell asleep in his room and let's just say there's something to do with trail and something to do with vomit. (Eeewww...)

Anyway, nothing to plan for IH anymore! Mummy's arriving on Monday to pamper me and I have a hell of a lot of work ahead. But instead i ran Ekiden (fastest ever! 45 mins for 5 km - and not last! - and felt pretty good. Thanks Uncle Chan, Adrian and Chin Yu [ok, and the cyclists - especially Raymond!] for bearing with me!), cleaned up my apartment (mummy coming la) thoroughly - and i mean scrubbed stove, wiped floor and shelves and vacuumed kind of thoroughly- and spent the day uploading and tagging photos.
Aiyak! Nvm... preparing for the work only. Phew.. All that done now. Better study hard tonight!

p.s: And Yes, i DID have a really bad headache when I woke up the next morning for 10 am meeting.

A Week and an Update

My poor abandoned blog, I'm sorry! I've been working hard, honest!
I attended a networking/Melbourne Uni Commerce Alumni event last night and it struck me that
a) everyone there was in the corporate world (i.e. working)
b) that even though they looked posh in their suits, ultimately, i could imagine them all as uni students.
c) that in the end, we are all just trying to act grown up but i could sort of detect that some things never change. (we remain just as eager to cover up just how little we know)

Had a conversation with Kee Hong, CC and Ken earlier in the day when we talked about work (cos it's impending!) and Kee said why do we need to wear suits? Such a hassle, can't we just work in casual clothes and then dress up when we need to?
Well, Kee. It's just to impress everyone and to fool yourself into thinking you are a grown up after all. Skived off work today and the thing that annoyed me the most was that I was all dressed for work but too lazy to go there. Haha.. So naughty.
But yeah, the clothing makes a difference Kee! The whole thing's a performance anyway.

What else happened? Went for Sahur with Omar, Kee Win, Dilshad, Rahul and a bunch of Muslim students on Saturday morning. (that's right. 4 am in the morning)
It was an experience! I don't know if i could stand to fast all day. It's about 14 hours without food and water. Wow. I'm hungry after about 5 hours. And this is during the day when you have to be up and about too! I respect you guys for being able to do it. *kowtow in awe*
Fun though! And Afghan kebabs are pretty yummilicious!

Lunch with Harvard a few hours later was a good laugh, as always. Perhaps, if i remember, I should share Harvard's Parenting Methods. Interesting, traumatising and possibly illegal. Said farewell to Kee Win that day too (Jin Jin's birthday!) but i know i'll see him soon enough (good luck in vietnam!)

Went to a salsa club for the first time ever that night! Wow, there are SO many sleazy men there. I love the music better than clubbing music though. Something you can shake your hips to (and goodness knows i have no shortage of hips). Wouldn't mind going back, but with sufficient dance partners and also bodyguards! heels that don't kill as much would be helpful too.

Caught up with Tas on Sunday when we had a cooking session / movies. I learned that i cannot cook while watching a movie. Haha.. left out the important spices. *silly me* but edible nonetheless. 3 movies, 2 bottles of wine (1 each!) and much cheese and crackers later, had to sit down and do final editing of my essay. So naughty! But done and surprisingly not tipsy either.

Quick recap done, not like anyone really is interested in these things. A week after the whole marriage stuff and it's Valedicts tomorrow! Finally! I'm not really looking forward to it. More like a 'it's-been-a-long-time-coming' feeling and 'i-hope-it-all-runs-smoothly'. Really, i do! Here's to getting smashed, picking up (for Rahul - and don't get gland!), and generally having a good time - and waking up at 9 am for my 10 am meeting the next day! Whee!

Surely a photo-taking event. =)

Father Figures

Because Damien pointed out that there aren't any pictures with daddy. I'm sure there are nicer ones with the posh cameras, but just cos he's less of a camwhore doesn't mean he's not important.
I AM daddy's little girl after all. =)

p.s: no really - we look alike!

The Wedding: Friends, Family, Food, Alcohol and Many Many Photos!

Right... back in Melbourne where i skipped class for the first time this semester (was too tired and lazy) and slept for 4 hours in the afternoon. Gonna be a sleepless zombie tonight! Anyhoos, was going to start writing my essay but I thought I can't leave people in limbo with the wedding pictures, so here they are!
Flurry of activity at the Reg-o table. My 2nd bro helping out!
The two mothers-in-law (can you tell my mum's the one in blue and yellow?)
Me on stage! Speaking! Me Me Me! haha.. my moment in the spotlight. See... the pro photographer took a better picture)Taiko giving his mucho mushy speech. Many cringe-worthy moments. But i can't speak so much until I fall head over heels in love eh?
Cousin David and I listening intently (thought this shot looked cool)
The cake-cutting and ceremonial feeding each other. Yum yumPouring of the bubbly!
Yam Sing of the bubbly! My cousin said the thingo in Canto and I had to translate... interesting! The Canto toastmaster and my cousins
Most of the girls on my dad's side of the familyCousins Lim (and soon to be Mrs. Lim) and I. Good looking bunch!
My aunty and her gorgeous daughters! I really think they're beautiful... and still young! Also, bro and his gfAnd you wonder how I can drink? Haha.. Very powderful genes! (this is after all the other guests had left)
Such nice colour coordination. I think the pair on the left also will get married eventually, dating for 6+ years already! The Best Man and his fiance (to be married in January) and the newlyweds. Aaaww.. young love.
Maybe a picture of all the girls in the family next time? (dad was having drinks) Dunno man, poor 2nd bro kept getting asked when his wedding would be (in front of her!)
Mum and I posing... camwhores at heart. =)

So, my memories of the wedding:
  • Playing driver for many many people
  • Walking around pouring alcohol for people
  • Helping with the toasting from table-to-table. I thought they were sounding a tad diminished after table 30 so came to contribute my voice (which shocked dad! he didn't know i could Yam Sing!)
  • Talking to bros' friends who have not seen me for 10 years (and were surprised i could drive because obviously i didn't grow from the 8 year old brat!)
  • Speaking on stage in front of 60 tables of people and relatives(!) and being told that the best line was my only unscripted impromptu 'i've always wanted to say this. I'm sorry, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please bear with me and we'll be back shortly'. Darn it! obviously wasted too much time writing
  • Translating a cantonese Yam Sing toast. For anyone interested in what they say, The First Toast is to celebrate the union of two people (as cousin put it: 2 become 1), the Second Toast is to hope that they grow old together (as cousin put it: White hair until old) and the Final Toast is to wish that they are blessed with children soon (as cousin put it: make baby ASAP!)
  • Posing for many many pictures for the 'professional' photographer that was wearing what looked like a char kuay teow man shirt with cargo pants and chewing gum [his line being. Ok, look here. One, two, Gat! (wth?)]
  • Receiving my first angpow from taiko and tai soh! (wah.. many more to come!)
  • Going to a church wedding! (yeah aaron, you're right.. it's like.. *scratch head* if you're not from the church)
  • Having crispy hard hair from so much hairspray! But i thought it looked pretty nice leh (albeit a bit ah lian)
  • Playing the event organiser as my brother gave me his timeline and said, you can liaise with the Mandarin Oriental people and the band, and sort out the timing and things. Wah! Felt pretty responsible also. Have to keep the time and cue people and listen to "So, Miss Jeannie, when should we stop the food and have this event that event. (The Mandarin Oriental staff are really awesome tho! So efficient and polite and helpful)
Enough of memories, i think there will be lots more better photos in a month or so when the professional photographer gets his act together. But it was a pretty big, awesome, beautiful ceremony and the first one where I get to sit on the main table (with all the other big people. a bit out lah..) Rather enjoyable and have to make up for it by essay-writing though. Still, a career in event management? I reckon i could do it!

p.s: nah Damien.. for your viewing pleasure!
